Writing

Great writing can make you literally L.O.L. — or open-mouth sob. Writing teaches and entertains. It can spur action and bring people together. Words have power, so it’s important to use them in the right ways.

What I’m good for:

  • Articles, blog posts

  • Social media copy

  • Press releases

  • Website copy

  • Video scripts

  • Long-form content (white papers, guides)

I’m open to writing assignments big and small. I enjoy a good challenge and, even more so, the opportunity to learn something new.

Design

The difference between good design and design that isn’t so good is immediately apparent. A good design works hard behind the scenes, doing all the heavy lifting behind the curtains so that everything on stage runs smoothly.

I can help with:

  • Brochures

  • Datasheets

  • Infographics

  • Event collateral

  • Pitch decks / Presentations

  • Graphics for social, blog, etc.

Most of my experience with design started in the newsroom at St. Cloud State University. As an editor there, I designed the print newspaper, graphics for the paper and the website (which I also managed).

Today, I jump in and out of about a dozen Adobe Creative Cloud applications on a weekly basis. I create graphics for social media, blogs, emails, print material, like invites, brochures and data sheets, and so much more.

I’m most comfortable with these Adobe Creative Cloud apps:

  • Photoshop

  • Lightroom

  • Illustrator

  • InDesign

  • Premiere Pro

  • Audition

Photography

Compelling imagery and thumb-stopping visuals have never been more in demand than now as the incessant world of social media and information consumption barrel up to the cyber-gates of our smartphones. And for good reason. Photos tell a great story.

What I enjoy most:

  • Event coverage

  • Product

  • Lifestyle

  • Sports

I started messin’ around with a camera in college; it was my senior year and I needed to fill credits. Lo and behold, it’s exhilarating to capture a moment that really says something, that makes you feel something, that inspires or evokes emotion. That’s what hooked me, and that’s why I’m committed to learning the craft.

Rates and Pricing

I typically charge an hourly rate of $30 to $40 for writing and design services, with a 10% deposit down. Photography work is a bit different. I typically start sessions at about $100 to account for equipment, shooting time and post production. But, I understand that not every project is the same, so prices may vary.

FAQs

How Do We Work together?

First, we have a kick-off call to talk about the project, your goals and timelines. Then, we agree to a price.

I send an invoice (likely via PayPal). You make the deposit, and I get to work. I deliver on deadline. We go through revisions — if needed — and then, the final product is all yours.

How does Payment work?

Paying me doesn’t have to be difficult. I run most business through PayPal, but I’m not above Venmo, Google Pay, Apple Pay, or cash.

How Fast Can You Turn Around Projects?

It depends on the project, the urgency and nature of things. However, I can move pretty darn fast if it’s needed.

  • For general writing assignments — like blog posts, articles or press releases — I tend to ask for 2-5 days to accommodate researching, writing and revising the material.

  • For more basic design assignments — like PowerPoint decks, social media graphics or one-pagers — I tend to ask for about 5 days. This includes the initial meeting, round one of design, any revisions, and then packaging it all up.

  • For general photography assignments, I ask for about a week mostly for post production.

Can I move faster? Yes, I certainly can if need be. Just ask. And vice versa, if projects are more in-depth, please expect that they will take longer.
